Why Florida Homes Need Regular Filter Changes

By Coolstream Heating & AirPublished Updated

The short answer

Dirty filters can push energy bills higher and make cooling feel weaker. Regular changes keep air moving the way it should.

Choose a filter your system can support

Match the dimensions on the existing filter and the equipment instructions. A higher filtration rating is not automatically a better fit: a restrictive filter can reduce airflow if the system was not designed for it. Ask for an airflow assessment before changing filter type or thickness.

Check condition rather than relying on the calendar

Inspect the filter monthly and follow its replacement instructions. Pets, remodeling dust, and heavy cooling use can shorten its useful life. Fit the replacement securely with the airflow arrow pointing toward the equipment. Do not wash a disposable filter or operate the AC without its required filter.
