Storm Preparation
AC Not Working After a Storm or Power Outage in Palm Coast?
The short answer
After a storm, check for visible damage from a safe place before trying the AC. Flooded equipment, damaged wiring, burning odors, or repeated breaker trips require professional help.
Make safety the first check
Wait until officials say it is safe to return or go outside. Stay away from standing water near electrical equipment, downed power lines, and damaged buildings. Do not touch an outdoor condenser that has been flooded or struck by debris. The National Weather Service recommends checking for hazards after a hurricane and never operating a portable generator inside a home or garage.
If there is no visible damage
Once power is stable and the equipment appears dry and undamaged, read the thermostat display and check its operating mode. Some systems delay compressor startup after an interruption; follow the equipment instructions instead of repeatedly cycling the controls. Note any error code or blank display. Do not bypass an equipment protection delay or safety switch.
When to stop troubleshooting
A unit that hums without cooling, trips a breaker repeatedly, smells burnt, or has visible damage needs diagnosis. Leave electrical covers closed. Storm damage can involve controls or wiring even when the cabinet looks intact. If the equipment was submerged, keep it off until a qualified professional evaluates it.
What to tell the service team
Explain when power went out, whether water reached the unit, and what the thermostat shows now. Photos taken from a safe location may help document damage. Confirm service availability and keep insurance and repair records together if storm damage is suspected. This guide is general preparation advice and does not report a current local storm.
